Robberies known as growing problem in Albany

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Robbery rates are up this year in Albany.

The Albany Police Department only has crime stats through August.

134 robberies were investigated during the first eight months of the year, making a 12 percent increase over last year and a 20 percent increase over 2014.

The owners of Woodall's said they do all they can to keep their customers and employees safe.

The officers that patrol by here quite frequently. 

"And our stores stay pretty busy constantly and I think that helps to prevent robberies," said Matthew Woodall, Woodall's head of marketing and sales," said Matthew Woodall.

The last robbery at a Woodall's took place about year ago at the Jefferson Street store.
