THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - An empty neighborhood in Thomasville has started filling up with homes. The city partnered with a contractor to build houses on empty lots on Victoria Place Street.
Some of the old homes in the area are being salvaged.
One house was built in the 1800's. The owner is rehabbing the house before the next tenant moves in.
The plan is to have a vibrant neighborhood that blends in with the city's downtown area.
Buyers have already expressed interest in the project.
"Its very exciting, its really fun to be really creative and take something that was dilapidated and give it a new life. They have developed a neighborhood that looks like an urban downtown neighborhood. This is not something that's in the country its in the city for folks that want to be apart of a bigger community," said Catherine Hope.
There are currently 24 open lots available for new housing.
