THOMAS CO., GA (WALB) -

Elementary students in Thomas County participated in a reading rally Thursday morning.

Football players, Cheerleaders and Band members from Thomas County Central High School all participated in the rally.

The goal is to encourage reading at a young age, in a fun way.

Students got to pick out their own book to take home.

And special guests from the community read to groups of students outside.

"We put out hundreds of books and they get to choose the one they want. And then they come out and get the athletes to sign it or to "autograph it" and they love that! They will come in the library and show me their book that is full of autographs," said Darlene Cook, Media Specialist.

This is an annual event.

High school students that participated said they remember coming to the rally when they were younger.
