Dougherty Co. school official contests DUI charge

DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - A Dougherty County School official is contesting a DUI charge he received on September 23rd in Lee Co.

Kenneth Dyer is the Chief Financial Officer and Associate superintendent of Dougherty County Schools.

He said the incident started with an improper lane change.

"A couple of weeks ago when I was leaving a charitable event, a fundraiser, I was transporting a friend home and I was pulled over for an improper lane change. Subsequent to that I was arrested for DUI and I am contesting the charge," said Dyer.

The school system released a statement regarding the incident:

In following board policy, Associate Superintendent and Chief Financial Officer Kenneth Dyer reported immediately to the superintendent that he had been charged with a DUI. It's currently a legal matter before the courts as Mr. Dyer is contesting the charge. Once the case is adjudicated, the superintendent will determine an appropriate course of action that is consistent with both board policy and the way similar situations have been handled in the past.
