ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

More than 6,000 Marine recruits are training at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany after evacuating Parris Island, South Carolina.

They're trying to stick to their normal training and class schedule while they're here in Albany.

Some are just a week away from graduation.

Colonel Matthew St. Clair from Parris Island says he appreciates all the help and support they've gotten at the base in Albany.

"They have been first rate. It was a smooth transition. We were able to start training at sun up the morning we got here," said St. Clair.

Marine officials will assess damage once Matthew passes and then decide when the recruits can return to Parris Island.
