ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Eleven Albany and Lee County firefighters will deploy to help with emergency relief efforts.

Nine Albany firefighters and two Lee County Public Safety firefighters will head to Valdosta Saturday morning.

They'll meet up with other Georgia Search and Rescue Task Force members from across the state.

A total of 35 emergency workers will make up the Region 6 response team.

Officials said that the state's emergency responders are ready.

"We are far better trained and we have better organization between the departments and organizations," said Lee County Public Safety Director Wesley Wells.

"Any houses are damaged, going in. Just like with Katrina, going in afterwards and checking and making sure everybody is okay," explained Captain Bruce Bennett with the Albany Fire Department.

The GSTAR search and rescue personnel will stage in Valdosta, and then move to Waycross as the storm moves past the Georgia coast.

They are expected to be deployed for 9 days.
