TIFTON, GA (WALB) - Dozens of volunteers are staffing emergency shelters and serving hurricane evacuees in south Georgia on Thursday.
Around 5pm, evacuees began arriving at the Red Cross Shelter at ABAC in Tifton.

So far, the shelter has registered 89 clients, several of them are from the Brunswick area.
Most of the volunteers are ABAC students.
Evacuees are grateful for a safe place to stay.
"I think it's very nice here because I stopped in Waycross and had me a meal. I brought half of the meal here and then I got here and they had food for us to eat," said Brenda Cross.
"God blessed us to come here because it's hardly no one here. And it doesn't really feel like anything, it just feels almost like a home away from home for a second. My kids are excited," said Alisha Smith.
The shelter has enough cots to house 200 hundred evacuees.
