Motorcyclist caught after high-speed chase through Lee Co., Albany

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A man on a motorcycle led Georgia State Patrol Troopers across a four county chase before he finally ran out of gas and was arrested.

The white motorcycle, driven by Zackery Downing, 18, refused to stop for Sumter County Sheriff's deputies around 2 Tuesday afternoon.

Troopers were called in to aid in the chase, which went down U.S. 19 through Leesburg and Lee County, Dougherty County, downtown Albany on Oglethorpe Boulevard, and into Worth County.

Troopers said the chase was at very high speeds and finally discontinued when they lost sight of him on Doles Road.

Worth County deputies found the motorcycle and rider hiding in a field, after he ran out of gas.

Downing refused to stop for a Sumter County deputy and went through Lee and Dougherty counties in excess of 145 miles per hour.

He faces multiple felony charges.

Troopers said Downing told them he ran because he was afraid and was told by friends he could outrun law enforcement.
