ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Jury selection began Monday in Albany Federal Court, in a lawsuit by investors against a Bainbridge family. The group that is suing claims they defrauded investors of hundreds of thousands of dollars, through bad business practices.

The Confirmation Committee for Small Business is the plaintiff in the lawsuit.

Derek Martin, as the executor for the estate of Vance Martin, is one of more than a dozen family members and family owned companies named as defendants in the lawsuit.

The suit claims that Martin and his business interests  for an insolvent lending company called the 'Money Tree,' took investment capital since 2000, and used "fraudulent schemes of self-dealing for the owner's benefit, leading to the company collapse."

Fifty-seven South Georgians were called for jury selection today.
