SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) -

People who served our country took the lead in serving their community Friday evening.

American Legion Post 335 teamed up with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive at the Margaret Jones Library in downtown Sylvester.

Several dozens of people donated.

"Well, there's always a need for blood, and several months ago, we had a couple of tragic incidents that happened around the nation where there was a great need for blood, and we realize that there's a need in our area. Anything can happen in our area at any time," said Ray Humphrey, Post 335 Commander.

The post plans to hold a blood drive every couple of months in Sylvester.
