DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - The Dougherty District Attorney warns he will seek maximum penalties against crooked used car salesmen and repairmen if they're convicted of ripping off customers.
District Attorney Greg Edwards says a recent Dougherty County Sheriff's Office investigation uncovered close to 100 victims in a car sales fraud scheme.
Many more victims told investigators about what they felt were shady sales tactics and repair ripoffs.
Edwards says he won't tolerate business owners exploiting people in our high poverty community.
"When we have this type of predator, financial predator, we're going to vigorously prosecute," said Edwards. "We just can't tolerate that, because there are too many victims in this particular circumstance. Too much damage is done."
The District Attorney says the Sheriff's investigation into the used car fraud continues, with more charges and arrests expected.
