VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The Valdosta Board of Education joined other South Georgia school boards to oppose the Opportunity School District constitutional amendment.
The board voted on the resolution Tuesday, September 27.
Georgia voters will decide on the amendment in November.
It would give the state authority to take control of chronically failing schools.
Valdosta School Superintendent Doctor Todd Cason released the following statement about the decision on Thursday:
"The Valdosta Board of Education feels very strongly that control over local public schools belongs to the local boards of education who are chosen by election within the communities they represent."
