ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Commodore Conyers College and Career Academy was initially set to start classes in January, but that date has since been pushed back.

The school will now start classes in the fall of 2017.

A spokesman for the school department said they had a very optimistic idea of when they thought they could open this year.

After meeting with contractors, school administrators realized they needed more time to ensure a smooth start.

Staring in the fall will give contractors more time to design classrooms and give administrators more time to plan.

"We realized too that the programming aspect of it, the curriculum, the classes that we intend to offer doesn't need to be a rushed process. It needs to be something that is deliberate and thought out," said J.D. Sumner, DCSS Spokesperson.

Construction will start shortly in the part of Southside Middle school that is not being used, and students will remain in the building during the process.
