ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany city commissioner is working to keep you healthy.
Southwest Georgia has some of the highest diabetes rates in the country.
Ward One Commissioner Jon Howard will host a town hall meeting on Saturday, aimed at reducing the rates.
A registered nurse who's an expert on diabetes will also share potentially lifesaving information.
"So our speaker tomorrow is going to educate and inform and tell us what we can do for a lot of us like myself that is a borderline diabetic, that we need to be on alert and change our lifestyle and change our eating habits," said Howard.
Diabetes is more common in poor and minority populations, partly because they have less access to good health care.
The town hall meeting will run from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the east Albany police precinct on East Oglethorpe Boulevard.
