EARLY CO., GA (WALB) -

Students at Early County Elementary school are spreading cheer.

Friday afternoon a group traveled to Early Memorial Nursing Home with vases and cards.

They even grew the flowers themselves in the school garden.

The trip is part of the student's required community service.

The goal is for them to use what they are doing in school to give back to the community.

"I think they learn to be empathetic. They know that they are going to spread cheer and make someone's day and give a visit to someone that might not have a visitor," said teacher Gina Roland.

The school hopes to do more trips like this in the future.
