ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

They aren't running against each other but two state senators will debate each other in south Georgia.

Republican Greg Kirk from Americus and Democrat Vincent Fort from Atlanta said they want to start a dialogue about important issues.

They agreed to hold a series of debates around the state.

"We need more public input around these issues. They're not going away, they're going to come back. So we need more discussion around it so we can find a good middle ground that works for everybody in our society," said Kirk.

Senators Kirk and Fort held a debate in Savannah tonight following one in metro Atlanta.

WALB News 10's Ben Roberts will moderate a debate between the senators at the UGA Conference Center on Thursday in Tifton at 7 p.m.
