ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Georgia Power announced that it will release water from the hydroelectric dam on the Flint River Monday, to lower the water level of Lake Chehaw and Lake Worth.

The reservoir will start down Monday, September 26th and reach the drawdown bottom elevation by October 5th. The lake will be lowered approximately 5 feet to an elevation of approximately 176.3 feet above sea level.

Georgia Power will begin to refill the lakes on Tuesday November 1, and the normal full pool will be reached as rain falls, and normal flow continues.

Lake residents should make sure their boats are tied up securely during the drawdown.

Before the start of any work along the shoreline, plans must be submitted to Georgia Power Company for review and approval, prior to construction of new structures or for maintenance of existing structures.

Residents who want a new seawall need to complete a Buffer Disturbance Request form, that must be approved by the county issuing authority before a permit will be issued by Georgia Power.
