TIFT CO., GA (WALB) - One organization is raising money to benefit the homeless women and children of Tift County.
The Bridge of Tiftarea Corporation is raising money to build the first women's only shelter in Southwest Georgia.
The house will have several goals in mind, one is creating hope.
"We wanted to get a jump start. It was time," said Founder Martine Hill.
Hill saw a need for a women's only shelter in Tift County.
31 prizes, each with a ticket bucket are placed at an entrance of the Tifton Mall.
Prizes will be raffled off on Monday. Money from ticket sales and donations from businesses will be used to help build a House for Hope.
"Our goal is $20,000," said Hill.
With that $20,000, the building of the Tiftarea House for Hope will create a safe place for homeless women and their children. Judy Shiflet, who came up with the raffle concept said that every little bit helps
"Not only will this house serve as a shelter but it will also have a classroom and resources to help further their education and teach them life and job skills," explained Shiflet.
"Hill hopes the women in need will use these resources and give credit to the people of the community for helping give them an opportunity for a new start," said Martine.
The raffle tickets will be on sale at the Tifton Mall through the rest of the week.
The House for Hope is expected be built and running by January of 2017.
