ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Frankie Williams II received the REACH Scholarship.
Williams is an 8th grader at Merry Acres Middle School.
This is the first time in the history of the program a Dougherty County middle schooler has won the scholarship.
Williams will receive a $10,000 college grant after graduating high school.
"The requirements are really just a regular thing for some people, like me. It's getting good grades, doing what you're supposed to and going to class on time, just doing everything you need to do," said Williams.
"Academically, we're well on our way to excellence. We have some brilliant students in this school district," said Superintendent David Mosely.
Governor Deal started REACH to help students afford college.
The program has committed over $11 million to help future students.
