THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

A grandmother in Thomasville was arrested and charged with three counts of cruelty to children.

Investigators said Rena Mitchell punished her three grandchildren by beating them with belts and phone chargers.

Officer said there is video evidence of the abuse taken from a cell phone.

They said this is a case where punishment was taken too far.

"She used excessive force with an apparent extension cord. She disciplined the children in a very aggressive way and used a lot of aggressive and vulgar language while doing that act," said Capt. Maurice Holmes, Thomasville Police Department.

Mitchell is still in jail tonight.

Her bond amount has not been set.
