SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) -

Officials say a duck shot in the beak with a dart was just captured by the Worth County Humane Society.

The Humane Society believes the duck has been in this condition for the past few weeks.

Workers were out at the duck pond on Thursday, trying to capture the duck with bread and a net.

Best Friends Executive Director Jody Yarbrough said that the duck was very skittish because many residents have tried to catch the duck in attempt to help it.

But after a couple of hours, Yarbrough said they were able to catch it.

"It appears to be a blow gun dart. So someone maliciously shot him with the intent of injuring or killing," explained Yarbrough. "It looks like the dart is in the sinus or nasal cavity area. He appears to be eating fine and living."

The dart came out in the process of catching the duck.

The duck has been taken to a local vet for treatment.

The police will now investigate to determine how this happened.
