THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - First responders in Thomasville got a big thank you for their lifesaving work Tuesday.
Area realtors hosted a luncheon to show those public workers how important they are to the community.
"They put their lives on the line every day but we want them to know that there are other benefits and we all love them we want to feed them a very nice meal and celebrate them," said Peggy Corbitt, member of area realtors.
Some even have to take their meals to go. A job that sometimes requires first responders to give up their lunch breaks to serve others.
"Most of them don't ever get to have an uninterrupted meal, so even though they had to eat pretty fast they got to sit down and eat a full meal," said Corbitt.
Many first responders at the lunch Tuesday said it was great to see their community support them.
"We're part of a great great community. And I can't stress enough how much we appreciate how much our community supports public safety as a whole," said Major Wade Glover, Thomasville PD.
Police, EMS, Sheriff's Office, GBI, Fire, and GSP all together under one roof
"We work different shifts, different departments, everyone has their own responsibility but we still work great together," said Glover.
Many of them seeing each other for the first time since all forces were joined to respond to hurricane hermine.
"We all work together and that's critical, very very critical," said Glover.
The room was packed, stomachs were filled, and everyone enjoyed this community event.
"We had more this year than ever before, I don't know what it was. Maybe it was because the food was from the plaza! I don't know," said Corbitt.
The luncheon has been held for the past 12 years, and organizers hope they can continue to do it for future years to come.
