THOMAS CO., GA (WALB) - A Thomas County teacher recently earned a statewide honor from the Georgia Art Education Association.
Emily Holton received the GAEA's Middle Level Art Educator of the Year Award.
Holton has been an art teacher for 11 years.
She said she believes art is an important class for every student.
"We really give the students a great variety of things they might want to do career wise. If you look at the state of Georgia, most jobs are either arts based or agriculture based and that's why we offer," said Holton.
Holton will be recognized by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Dusty Kornegay and school board members at the September 13 meeting.
