THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Authorities in Thomasville have identified the victim of a drowning at Cherokee Lake on Saturday.

Officials received a 911 call in reference to a possible drowning at about 6 p.m.

According to officials, 52-year-old Armando Ferrera Praza jumped into the lake and attempted to swim out to a waterfall.

Bystanders say they noticed Praza eventually go underwater once and rise to the surface, before going underwater a second time and not resurfacing.

Some bystanders jumped into the lake and attempted to rescue Praza with no success.

After authorities were notified, the Thomas County Water Rescue Team was called in to rescue Praza.

The body was then located by the Water Rescue Team and brought to the bank, where Praza was pronounced dead at the scene.
