Newton man sentenced to 15 years for firearms violations

NEWTON, GA (WALB) - A Newton man was sentenced to 15 years, after pleading guilty to Discharging a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime.

Richard Bynes, 30, was sentenced as a career offender based on his two prior bank robbery convictions in 2005.

Camilla Police responded to reports of shots fired at an apartment complex on January 26, 2015.

A witness told investigators that Bynes had fired the shots into the air because a tenant owed him money.

GBI agents obtained a search warrant for Bynes' home, and found cash, a drug ledger, drugs, and digital scales.

This case was investigated by the DEA, GBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
