DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) -

With the 15 anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks Sunday, the Dougherty County Coroner remembers his service at the Twin Towers.

Michael Fowler was with the GBI Medical Examiners Office, and was called to New York as part of the Federal Disaster Operation Morgue Team, to identify and classify remains at the World Trade Center sight.

Fowler arrived the day after the attacks, and stayed for 10 and a half weeks working on the recovery.

Fowler said he has worked 17 major disasters, but this was the worst.

And thinking about the families searching for missing loved ones still brings tears to his eyes.

"The family members just trying to give you a picture through the gate. Could you find my love one?  You could see little children.  Did you find my Daddy?  And that brings tears to your eyes. They lost everything," said Fowler.

Fowler has been speaking to church groups and civic clubs this week telling them about his 9/11 experience.

He said even 15 years later he remembers their work like yesterday.
