THOMAS CO., GA (WALB) -

People in Thomasville started their first lesson at the Citizens Academy Thursday night.

This a ten week program that is designed to give the community a lesson on how the local government works.

Classes will be taught each week by different agencies such as commissioners, the sheriffs office, and public works.

Sometimes the community even brings new ideas and ways of doing things to the table.

"With educated citizens, they become more involved with the community and sometimes they really support what we do and why we do it," said Derrick Ogletree.

After the program is complete, everyone will go through a graduation ceremony on November 17th.
