ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents continue their investigation into Wednesday's fatal shooting by an Albany Police officer.
Robert Lee Brown, 55, was shot after he attacked and stabbed the officer.
An autopsy was performed Thursday.
The GBI has not released any details, but Albany Police did release the name of the officer.
Derrick Williams, 34, is a three year veteran of the force.
The Albany Police Department issued a release Thursday morning, identifying the officer who fatally shot a man who stabbed him in the pre-dawn hours yesterday as Derrick Williams.
Albany Mayor Dorothy Hubbard wants to assure the community that city leaders are doing a full investigation of the police fatal shooting.
She told us her first thought was for the family of Robert Brown.
"We're sorry. But certainly do want to thank our officers who do protect us each and everyday. Our first responders have their lives always on the line. And certainly we thank them for their work that they do to protect us," said Hubbard.
Brown's family members said he had mental health issues and possibly wasn't taking his medications as prescribed.
