Thomasville City Schools joined a nation-wide campaign to encourage school attendance.
The Attendance Awareness Campaign lasts throughout September to encourage 100% attendance at school.
Superintendent Sabrina Boykins-Everett signed a proclamation kicking off the month-long event.
She said attendance is essential to a student's success in the classroom and helps promote healthy habits when students enter the workforce.
"It develops a work ethic, and for students this is your job, your job is to come to school. To do your work as a student and to understand that there is a payoff in the end," said Superintendent Sabrina Boykins-Everett.
According to a map on the attendance awareness month website, Thomasville is the only school system in Southwest Georgia to participate in the campaign.
Last year 404 school districts in 45 different states participated in the program.
