ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A group of volunteers with the American Legion planted nearly 900 flags and dozens of crosses on Saturday.
With this week marking 15 years since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the memorial site remembers soldiers in South Georgia that have died during combat in Afghanistan and Iraq.
"It's a good patriotic program. We get a lot of young folks involved from the local high schools. They participate in helping us put up all of these flags. We put them up in a hour and a half Saturday morning, that was a record time," said veteran Marvin Mixon.
The 9/11 ceremony will take place Saturday at 7 p-m outside of Albany Mall near the fountains.
