APD to enforce parking tickets in downtown Albany

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Parking tickets are coming back to downtown Albany.

The Albany Police Department stopped handing out tickets last year to be more business friendly, but city leaders said too many people are taking advantage of the lax policy.

Beginning September 12th at 8 a.m. police will begin writing tickets for drivers who park too long on most streets in the downtown business district.

"If you know you are not going to be able to come back out in that time frame, please use the two parking decks that are located in central downtown.  And there is also the large parking lot behind the courthouse that doesn't have time limits," said Lt. William Dowdell of APD.

Police said they will not give out warnings.
