ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany Police say they're seeing drivers illegally passing school buses, and they warn you they're cracking down to stop it.
School bus drivers are recording tag numbers of cars that illegally pass them, and officers are following up.
They don't want any children struck by cars and say drivers need to know the consequences if that does happen.
Albany Police Lt. William Dowdell said "There is a civil penalty. There is a monetary fine. There are points against you driver's license, but then there is the emotional aspect of you having to deal with striking someone's child. whether they live or die."
You cannot legally pass a stopped bus in either direction on any road without a median or barrier.
