Editorial: Valdosta State changing lives with grant

A federal grant has the potential to change lives, and legacies for many families.

A $2 million grant from the Department of Education will be distributed by Valdosta State, to provide a college education for migrant workers, and their descendants.

The College Assistance Migrant Program or 'CAMP' grant will cover all the expenses of a student, and will include a stipend.

This means that the student can go to college full time, without having to work, and without incurring college debt.

This alone is a tremendous leg up for a class of people who have many times been trapped in a cycle of poverty.

At a time when job skills are at a premium, we encourage anyone who fits the criteria for the CAMP grant to contact Valdosta State immediately.
