ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Officials responded to an accident on Clark Ave. near the Shell station Thursday afternoon.

4 cars were involved.

According to officials, a chain reaction was started after Stephen Vaughn, 26, of Douglas, apparently fell asleep while driving a Ford F-350 while driving westbound on Clark and rear ended Rhonda Salas, 49, of Albany in a Mercury Grand Marquis.

Salas' vehicle was then pushed into a Toyota Camry that Brenda, 46, and Michael Mixon, 46, were in. The Toyota was then pushed into a Cadillac DeVille driven by Marian Thomas, 64.

Salas was taken by EMS to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries.

A witness to the accident, Michael Parr of Sumner, helped save Salas by pulling her from her vehicle while her car and the F-350 were engulfed in flames.

The accident is still under investigation and charges are pending for Vaughn.

EMS, Albany Fire and Police Departments responded to the scene.
