LEESBURG, GA (WALB) -

Polly Rosebud takes care of her litter of kittens like her very own. At least she seems to think they're hers.

Thursday, someone found the kittens under a truck and rushed them to Leesburg Animal Hospital because they were severely overheated.

Dr. Shannon Shepard was caring for the kittens, and her loving dog stepped in to help.

"Cuddling the kittens, cleaning them and licking them and trying to keep them warm and just taking care of them and the next thing we knew, they were trying to nurse her," said Dr. Shepard.

Dr. Shepard says it's okay for dogs to foster kittens, but she says it's best for kittens to be returned to their mother whenever possible.
