AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

Folks in downtown Americus are working to attract a new customer base.

With Georgia Southwestern State University and South Georgia Technical College close by, downtown leaders want to see more students taking advantage of what the city has to offer.

Last week's First Friday catered to students.

The colleges bused students in, something they plan to continue to do.

The city has also donated 10 bikes to GSW for students to bike into town.

"Great things to do after 5 p.m. and on the weekends. That is what is selling downtown communities or communities in general so that is what we are really trying to work on here is making this a really cool awesome place where people will want to visit, enjoy, stay," said Main Street Director Patrick Kay.

Bird-dog Barbeque will be moving into the downtown area in the next few months.

The city is also working to add a brewery in the future.
