ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The 2016 Olympics are over, but the ripples from Rio are still being felt in south Georgia.

The Albany Area YMCA is seeing an increase sign-ups for the Stingrays swim team.

The Y offers three age levels for kids between five to 15.

"I have had parents call and say especially their little ones the seven and eight year olds that have been watching the Olympics and they look at their parents and say, That's what I want to do. I want to swim,'" said YMCA Aquatics Director Teresa Manning.

Next week, the YMCA will offer one free week for kids to try out for the swim team.

Kids must be able to swim the length of the pool and know the basic freestyle stroke.

For more details on the registration fees, go to the YMCA page here.
