THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Downtown Thomasville is one step closer to being the home for an amphitheater and a new park.

Thomasville City Council members approved a construction bid at their meeting Monday night.

Part of the bid mentioned that most of the project needed to be done by April so construction will be starting in the next few weeks.

On Monday night, Council members unanimously approved a bid from CCH construction.

The amphitheater and park will be located on Stevens Street between West Jackson Street and Remington Avenue.

The park will be the trailhead of a 15 mile trial that goes through the city.

Plans for the project show a stage, restroom area, and a Terrance lawn.

"Tentatively the plan is to use it for first Friday events as early as next summer and other similar events," said Jerry Pionessa, city engineer.

Dont worry, the project is expected to be done right in time for Rose Show next year!
