COLQUITT CO., GA (WALB) -

A former Colquitt County employee has been sentenced to two years in jail Tuesday and will pay thousands back for taking from her job.

Rene Beamon was convicted of theft by taking.

According to court documents, investigators discovered money was taken from the county in October of 2014.

Beamon worked in the Emergency Management Agency and Compliance office.

Prosecutors believe that Beamon would take the cash from licensing fees, permits and other transitions, then falsify deposit records.

Beamon was sentenced 13 years of probation on top of her jail time.

She was also ordered to pay over $82,000 in restitution.
