ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany city leaders heard a presentation from a development group Tuesday night which they said could transform downtown.

They decided to continue conversations with a new group called Albany Development Partners, made up of business leaders from several different states with a track record of redeveloping downtown areas.

Their plan would include taking over management of the civic center, potentially bringing a new hotel downtown and finding ways to help the city save money that could be invested into their developments.

"It's a new day in Albany, Georgia that's all I can say and the new day is actually full of all these great possibilities of our downtown becoming a destination," said Albany Downtown Manager Latoya Cutts.

City commissioners said there's a lot more work that needs to be done to finalize this potential public-private partnership, but they said they are excited about the possibilities.
