ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Part of an Albany street is getting a name change to help protect residents.
On Tuesday night, city commissioners voted to change the name of two blocks of South Carroll Street to South Nolan Street.
Residents complained that first responders had trouble finding the area because the road dead-ends at Oglethorpe Boulevard and picks back up south of that main thoroughfare.
The Nolan family requested the road be named after Faye Nolan who lived on the street for more than 50 years.
"We've had a lot of friends through here. Our house was all the neighborhood kids hung out at the house, they loved mama just like us, their second mama," said Albany resident Jesse Nolan.
The Nolan family said that it's an appropriate street name since they own four houses on the street.
Only two other homes will be impacted by the name change.
