ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A house at the corner of Mitchell Avenue and Seedling Street was heavily damaged by a fire Monday morning.
The home owner, Johnny Massey said that he's lived there all his life, and was inside when the fire started, but escaped unharmed.
"I was going to go get the fire extinguisher but it was so much smoke that I come out the house and I couldn't get back in from the smoke coming up," said Massey.
Firefighters said that the house was 50 percent in flames when they arrived and most of the home was heavily damaged by fire and smoke.
Traffic was blocked on both streets and drivers were urged to avoid the area while crews worked to control the fire.
The only thing Massey was able to get from inside the home was his wallet.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
