COFFEE CO., GA (WALB) - A man is in jail in Coffee County after an argument escalated into gunshots.
According to the Coffee County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call for aggravated assault at around 1:24 a.m. August 14.
The incident happened near 75 Second Ave. in the Oak Park area.
When deputies arrived, they spoke with Sylvester Miller, who said that he and a Michael Weldon had been drinking and had an argument.
Miller told the deputies that the argument began over a drug debt and resulted in a fist fight.
Miller said Weldon then fired three shots into a home, where Miller said a female and small child were.
Deputies noticed what they believed was a hole from a gunshot in the home and called detectives to the scene.
The detectives recovered shell casings and a bullet fragment that went into the residence.
Officials said they were unable to find Weldon after an initial search of the area and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
He was found on August 18 near the area where the fight first happened.
Weldon is being held in the Coffee County Jail for aggravated assault. He has other charges pending.
