COFFEE CO., GA (WALB) - Officials are investigating after a man was caught trying to sneak drugs into the Coffee County jail.
According to a press release, officials noticed a male subject acting suspiciously in the public lobby of the jail at about 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
They then maintained surveillance of the man and watched him go inside the women's restroom in the lobby.
Deputies went into the restroom to approach the man and located a plastic bag containing tobacco, Methamphetamine, and Alprazolam tablets.
The Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit was called in to assist with the investigation.
The DCDU determined that the subject Donnie Carelock, 63, of Wray, GA had attempted to bring all of the items into the jail for someone to retrieve later and use.
Carelock was charged with Abandonment of a Controlled Substance, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, and Possession with the Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine. He was granted a $23,000 property bond.
Officials are still investigating to find out who was supposed to intended recipient.
