ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Rio Olympics are helping some South Georgia businesses see some extra green.
Chris Phillips, owner of Wild Side Running, told WALB News 10 that the Olympics have been a point of discussion for a number of customers.
With the track and field season coming up, the owner believes that the Rio Games have been inspiring some of the younger athletes as well.
Phillips said that August 13th was his busiest sales day of the year. He credits the upcoming meets and the Rio Games.
"I'd say that the Olympics has definitely got a lot of people interested. Competition, pride, everyone wants to go out and really do their best right now. So, I think the Olympics is really having a good impact," Phillips said.
Restaurants are also filling a few more seats.
Casa Tapatia on North Slappey Boulevard has been showing the coverage on several of their televisions.
Manager Jim Mejia said that it's been fun to see customers of all nationalities coming in to watch and cheer on their teams.
"Well people are actually enjoying it. You know we're actually showing the coverage and everyone wants to have drinks and sit at the bar and eat the great food that we have," Mejia explained.
The Rio Olympics are winding down with the Closing Ceremony set to take place on August 21.
