ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Mediacom will extend its high capacity broadband network to hundreds more business properties around Albany over the next six months.

Mediacom says in the past it has concentrated communication services to residential areas.
Now the company plans to push its network into more commercial areas.

The goal is to promote economic growth.

Mediacom Senior Director of Operations Phil Skinner said "Obtain right of easement agreements with owners. And then doing the actual construction that's necessary to provide services to their businesses. Taking the network right up to the front door of those businesses."

Mediacom says nationwide it plans to invest 1 billion dollars in what it calls "Project Open Road."
Construction in Albany is expected to begin later this year.
