DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - Construction at the Commodore Conyers College and Career Academy will begin soon.
Six firms presented their plans on Tuesday for the part of Southside Middle School that is not being used.
The firms' final packages are due by September 1.
Students at the school will remain in school through the construction.
Director of Facilities Bob Fowler says the students will not be impacted.
Most of the construction will be interior changes to accommodate new classrooms.
"We're basically creating college level, vocational level classrooms there, as well as instructional classrooms at a high school level that require larger spaces and collaborate learning," said Fowler.
Construction will officially start near the end of September and be in full swing through October.
The first phase will be completed around Christmas time so students can start.
