ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The homeless population is growing in Albany, and a group of volunteers and local businesses are trying to make a difference.

Albany's Salvation Army hosted a good old fashioned cook out on Saturday. They served hotdogs, hamburgers, donuts, and other food that was donated.

There were also several items raffled off.

Volunteers say the community involvement means everything to those in need.

"If it wasn't for our volunteers that come out and help it would be a lot more challenging to run the place. We are definitely trying to encourage a lot more people to come out and help," said Barbara Inyang, volunteer.

A Place for Hope and the Salvation Army are always looking for volunteers and donations.
