DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - Would you be willing to be pepper sprayed in the eyes for your job? Well that's what dozens of South Georgia jail detention officers did Friday.
A pepper spray training session is part of the jail school that the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office puts on.
28 students from five south Georgia counties took the two-week training. They were sprayed with two types of pepper spray directly in their face, in order to know the experience and become more able to handle it if they are pepper sprayed.
A photo was taken to prove the students received the training before they washed the burning foam out of their eyes with lots of water and shampoo.
"On a scale of one to ten it was about a 20. But I can see now so I got a little wind, so it ain't so bad," said Jamall Davis.
"It was just the fear of not knowing what's going to happen all week. But it was awesome to me. I think I'll do it again," said Yolanda Chrispen.
Instructors praised students after the pepper spray experience, saying they handled the situation well.
