ALBANY, GA (WALB) - One South Georgia organization is re-starting a much needed support group for parent's with austic children.
The Advocacy Resource Center held an autism parent support group on Thursday.
The meeting educates people about the developmental disorder and gives a platform for parents to discuss different coping strategies.
So far, advocates said they've received positive feedback from the community.
"And it's not just the autistic people but their family and friends have a lot of those challenges as well. And so when you can come together as a group. And know that those people also understand what you're dealing with, I think it just helps out," said Albany Autism Awareness Support Group President Heather Johnson.
The group will be meeting once per month.
